有關plates（以下稱圖版）的著錄，AACR 2中僅明確規定圖版面葉數的著錄方式，詳可參見AACR 2中2.5B9的相關規定：
2.5B9. Leaves or pages of plates. Give the number of leaves or pages of plates at the end of the sequence(s) of pagination, whether the plates are found together or distributed throughout the publication, or even if there is only one plate. If the numbering of the leaves or pages of plates is complex or irregular, follow the instructions in 2.5B8.
因此，在AACR 2以及LCRI中，均未發現有關「圖版內容種類」的著錄規定。在國會圖書館的MARC 21網站上，與圖版有關的著錄範例，也不一定會著錄「圖版內容種類」： 300 ## $a 27 leaves of plates, 4 p. ; $c 31 cm
目前僅在耶魯大學圖書館的編目政策（CIP record）中有提到，若欄位300分欄$a著錄圖版面葉數，則分欄$b須加錄「ill.」（詳細說明可參考網址 http://web.library.yale.edu/Cataloging/CIP/editing-300a），例如： 300 ## $a 246 p., 32 p. of plates : $b ill. ; $c 24 cm. + $e 2 CD-ROMs (4 3/4 in.)
因此，當欄位300分欄$a著錄圖版面葉數，分欄$b是否著錄「圖版內容種類」，建議可依圖書館的政策及編目員作業情形，決定著錄的詳簡程度。
